A Day in Downtown Anoka, Minnesota

Suburbia.  Land of malls, lifestyle centers, and fast food galore.  Has the pursuit of today’s trends caused us to lose touch with the slow but relaxing pace of the past?

Growth and progress are not always great.

Enter the historic town of Anoka, Minnesota.  Located just a skip, hop, and jump from Minneapolis, this town offers plenty of old-world charm and character to snap you back into a grandeur time.  Anoka plays host to a variety of shops and eateries including antique and vintage stores, clothing boutiques, specialty cafes, bars, and restaurants, as well as a live theater, all planted firmly on its authentic Main Street.

Feed your tummy and enjoy the sights.
The Rum River Walkway.

It also boasts being the Halloween Capital of the World (who would’ve known there is such a thing!)

Don’t miss the annual Halloween parade.

My son, Emmanuel, has a compulsive sweet tooth so a visit to Two Scoops Ice Cream is always a must.  I personally enjoy dabbling in my vintage crushes – these shops have swag!  And being that this terrific town is my middle school alma mater, it will always have a special place in my heart.

Not enough time to hold still for a photo.
If you love vintage, it’s amore alright!

No worries if you’re not in the mood for shopping or munching.  Venture down Anoka’s many sidewalks for some old-fashioned exercise and people watching, visit the Historic Museum, or take a stroll along the river.  There are year-around family friendly activities such as the Classic Car Show, Farmer’s Market, Riverfest, Food Truck Festival, and Halloween Parade to name just a few.  Check out a list of events HERE: https://www.discoveranoka.com/events/

A day spent in this sweet space is a nice boost to the spirit.  Go check out some turn of the century architecture with the intermingling of modern life.  You’ll have a good ole time touring Anoka, Minnesota!
